Fred Rogers was a remarkable and unparalleled voice in children's entertainment; he embodied a subdued wisdom and kind humor on his television show MR. ROGERS' NEIGHBORHOOD, which aired for a stunning 33 years from 1968 to 2001. With his gentle charm and friendly air, Mr. Rogers was able to address a broad range of topics pertinent to children's' growth and learning, and turned the medium of television into an intimate way to communicate love and encouragement to children. FRED ROGERS: AMERICA'S FAVORITE NEIGHBOR presents a lesser-known side of Fred Rogers, beginning with his early days in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, and offering rare vintage material and intimate accounts from friends, backstage footage, and his appearance on THE TONIGHT SHOW. Fans can watch Fred's passionate appearance before the Senate to argue in favor of funding for public broadcasting, as well as his acceptance of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The program is hosted by Michael Keaton, who grew up in neighboring Pittsburgh and worked as a stagehand for Mr. Rogers in his youth.
