Antonin Dvorak – Deo Gratias (DVD)

This documentary is a treat for both the eye and ear, shedding new light on the life and work of the great Czech composer. During his lifetime, Antonin Dvorak rose from a humble beginning as the son of the village butcher, progressing to enter the canon of classical music, as well as becoming a statesman of culture in his country, and a Senator in Austria. A patriot who espoused the incorporation of traditional folk music into his compositions, Dvorak is shown to be a man of strong character and sensitive intellect. The biography is augmented by selections of the composer's oeuvre, performed by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, featuring performances by Vaclav Neumann and Jiri Kout. They perform works such as the Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in B Minor, and Biblical Songs, as well as his violoncello and piano concertos, all of which number among the artist's best-known works.DVD Features:RegionKeep CaseFull Frame - 1.33Tracks:1.Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95From the New World: Allegro con fuoco2.Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in G minor, Op. 33: Finale - Allegro con fuoco3.Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in B minor, Op. 104: Allegro4.Slavonic Dances, 1st Series, Op. 46: No. 1 in C major& No. 2 in E minor5.Serenade in E major for String Orchestra, Op. 22: Finale - Allegro vivace6.String Quartet No. 12 in F major, Op. 96American: Finale - Vivace ma non troppo7.Biblical Songs, Op. 99: No. 4 The Lord is my shepherd& No. 5; I will sing a new song8.Te Deum, Op. 103'
